One UI 5.0 Beta 2 changelog
Starting with new features, One UI 5.0 Beta 2 brings a Smart Suggestions widget that can suggest useful apps or features for your phone. Samsung has also added a Maintenance Mode that prevents access to personal data such as photos, messages, and accounts. This comes in handy when handing over your phone to a repair technician. They can only access apps that came pre-installed with the device. Privacy Detection is another One UI 5.0 feature that helps protect your privacy. It detects and alerts you about sensitive information in photos when you’re about to share them with someone, whether on social media or privately. This feature can identify information such as credit card details, ID, and passports. You’ll be shown an alert so you can reconsider whether you want to share the photo. Samsung is also adding a Life Style Mode to Bixby Routines. This release also fixes several bugs present in the first beta build. Samsung mentions fixes for issues with automatic rotation, copying or forwarding of messages in the Samsung Messages app, quick notification panel appearing blank, pattern and PIN unlocking, power saving mode, touch sensitivity, and Bixby Routines. Beta software releases usually contain some known issues and the One UI 5.0 Beta 2 is no exception. Samsung mentions two of them, both related to Samsung Wallet. Firstly, the company says users who haven’t recently updated the Wallet may lose it altogether upon installing the new software. They need to manually install it again. The Digital Car Key in the Wallet may also fail to work properly. Samsung says deleting the Key and registering it should resolve this.
The latest update is now available in the US
Samsung began beta testing One UI 5.0 for the Galaxy S22 series earlier this month. The first beta release was available in Germany, South Korea, and the US. No other markets got it. But with Beta 2, the company covered users in India and the UK too. The latter two markets got both releases as a single bundle, weighing around 3GB. But in the three markets where the first release was available, including the US, it comes in a smaller package weighing just above 1GB. If you’ve registered your Galaxy S22 phone in the One UI 5.0 beta program, you should get the latest update over the air(OTA) soon. Samsung is expected to begin the stable rollout in October or November this year.
