The latest update for the Galaxy Tab S8 trio comes with firmware version X*00XXU2AVD6. According to the official changelog, the new software package brings some stability improvements along with the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release). It also updates the Pen Up, Samsung Internet, Samsung Health, and Calculator apps to the latest version. The package weighs over 500MB for the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. The OTA (over the air) package for other models should also weigh in at around half a GB. As for the content of the May security patch, Samsung has yet to detail the new SMR for its Android devices. Even Google hasn’t published the updated security bulletin with the content of the latest security patch. It likely won’t until next week. We will let you know once we have the information.

May security update reaches the Galaxy Tab S8 series

Samsung may have yet to detail the May security patch but it has already begun seeding the new SMR to its devices. The company has made it a habit of releasing a new security update before we flip the calendar to the new month. This month was no different. The Galaxy S22 series picked up the May security update earlier this week. The Galaxy Tab S8 series is now joining the party too. We expect a few more Galaxy devices to receive the May security update before the Korean brand publishes the content. If you’re using any of the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+, and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra in Europe, you should be receiving the May security update anytime if you haven’t already. Regarding the update process, you probably already know the drill. You will get a notification once the OTA package is available for your Tab S8 unit. As always, you can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your tablet. Navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it. If there’s no OTA update available, check back again later. Make sure to connect the device to an unmetered Wi-Fi network if you’re on a limited mobile data plan.
